About the Role
Hunter Engineering offers an excellent Survey Intern opportunity for students pursuing careers in land surveying or geomatics. This hands-on position provides real-world experience on diverse projects and mentorship from licensed professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assist survey crews with field operations and data collection
- Learn to operate surveying equipment including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and levels
- Help establish survey control and collect elevation and terrain data for topographic maps
- Perform construction staking and boundary retracement
- Process field data and assist with survey drawings using CAD
- Prepare basic survey exhibits, sketches, and maps
- Maintain equipment and ensure proper care
- Follow safety protocols and crew chief direction
- Participate in training sessions and professional development activities
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or related degree program
- Completed at least 1 year of coursework (sophomore standing or higher preferred)
- Basic understanding of surveying principles and mathematics
- Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Physical ability to carry equipment, walk long distances, and work on uneven terrain
- Valid driver's license preferred
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Available to work full-time during summer and/or part-time during school year
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous construction or outdoor work experience
- Basic familiarity with GPS/GNSS technology or survey equipment
- Interest in pursuing surveying licensure (SIT/LSI/CST/PLS)
- Coursework in surveying, CAD, or GIS
